Giveaway: Store Exclusive Grace's Red Apron

This giveaway has ended. Winners are announced here.

Welcome to Lissie & Lilly's first ever giveaw-

Lissie: Stop! You're doing our job! We're supposed to present the first, ever, ultimate, ultra amazing, super fantastic, roll a potato down Mount Everest giveaway!
Lilly: Well I don't know if it's near as exciting as you make it sound Lissie.
Lissie: That's what marketing is Lilly! Selling manure as gold!

Lissie: Alright everyone! We're here to tell you today about this one of a kind, super rare, irresistible chance to win a free gift that was a free gift from us!
Lilly: You're confusing people Lissie. Let me explain, our Big Person was-
Lissie: Mad! Foolish! Daft beyond Pluto!
Lilly: -brave enough to attend the release party at the American Girl store for the new Girl of the Year, Grace Thomas. At the store, they were giving out free gifts to the attendees. Our Big Person-
Lissie: Conned the souls off shoes!
Lilly: -was fortunate enough to receive several extra gifts because the people she went with didn't want theirs.
(Apparently they were there for the historicals and thought Grace was the newest member of BeForever.)
Lissie: Don't keep people in suspense Lilly! Let's show them what's in the envelopes!

Lissie: Presenting... A red... modesty skirt for Christmas trees?
Lilly: It's an apron Lissie!

Lilly: See? It has Grace Thomas' logo on the center.
Lissie: Must be awful full of herself to plaster her name everywhere. A logo! At 10 years old!
Lilly: There are two large pockets at the bottom.
Lissie: To hold her ego.

Lilly: And a black and white polka dotted bow here.
Lissie: We can market better than that Lilly. Let's put them on and show everyone all the things you can do in them!
Lilly: I'm not sure if there are a lot of options Lissie. There's only so much you can do in an apron.
Lissie: That's because you're not thinking dangerous enough! I'll show you!

Lissie: You can wear your apron while boiling scalding hot water to vanquish your enemies!
Lilly: Or use the water to make coffee or tea, preferably in your French press since Grace is visiting France.

Lissie: You can wear it as you play with fire! Literally!
Lilly: Lissie! Get down from there before you get hurt! That's dangerous! You'll give people troublesome notions!
Lissie: Life with an apron is nothing but troublesome notions!

Lilly: How about showing them what the apron is actually used for? To protect your clothes as you make delicious food like Grace does while learning to bake. She even has a mixer just like this!

Lissie: But a better use is to wear it to protect your clothes from stains as you wreck havoc at the American Girl headquarters for not yet creating a doll of color! 13 GotY dolls, and only 1 Latina, 1 half Asian, 1 half Hawaiian, and NOT A SINGLE BLACK DOLL! For shame! Taste my wrath!
Lilly: AHHH!!! Lissie! That's a real knife!!!
Lissie: Of course it is! I can't wreck havoc with plastic! Even if American Girl tries to foil me by producing plastic accessories, I still have our Big Person's Cleaver of Racial Equality!
(I love Grace's collection and think she's a lovely doll, but really AG, it's time to make a doll of color. It's past time.)

Lissie: Now that you've seen some great ways to utilize this apron, you can enter for your chance to win not 1, not 2, but one of 3 aprons we're giving away! Get into mischief L&L style by emulating our style!
Lilly: It's a miracle we demonstrated everything without losing any essential vinyl parts. If you would like a chance to win one of these aprons, please follow the guidelines below to enter, no purchase necessary.
Lissie: Unless you want to. We haven't decided what we're selling, but it'll be a mix of bladderdash and poppycock. Oranges not included.

The giveaway will run from Jan. 5 - Jan. 15 (midnight Central USA time).

  1. Well, what they'd make would depend on the doll, wouldn't it?

Mari? She'd make cupcakes, because she thinks that cupcakes are Nature's Perfect Food.
Elyse? She'd steal my mother's recipe for homemade candy and try to make that - and probably make a total mess while she did!
Gracie? Fried chicken! You need a good sturdy apron for fried chicken to protect yourself from grease - doubly so if your body is cloth and you could conceivably catch fire!
Zoƫ? She'd make... hm. She'd probably just wear it to do Science in the kitchen, because Science in the kitchen is cool-beans.
Kanani? She'd make oodles and oodles of cookies to send to all the Cousins.
Caro? Something with the fish she caught, undoubtedly. Sportswoman that she is.

  2. Fabulous story as always. Those girls really make me laugh. I'd love to win one of those aprons so my daughter who adores cooking could make brownies. She loves making brownies with her doll, now Juliet will stay clean would look adorable while wearing the red apron.

  3. Ghost of Grace Future: Wooooo *ghost noises, ghost noises* Mirenithil plans to hand-pick me out when she has a chance to go to an AG store this summer. I've had to use the Tardis to travel back in time to get here for this now. "The Doctor" thought it would be funny if I showed up as the ghost of my future self. I'm confused about how future ghosts even work; I guess it's time to re-read A Christmas Carol. Anyway!
I will use my apron to bake with, but it's also good for keeping the evidence of, um, other stuff off your clothes, right? I mmmay have done something in 2019 I will need it for. If something in the future is in the past for you, what tense -do- you use? ...

  4. Oh, Lissie. If you ran AG the world would be a much stranger place. Awesome but strange. ;)

Hrmm. Well, Nani would probably use the apron to appropriate my tiny MLPs. She's sure the ego pocket would be just large enough to smuggle them from my bookcase to her area of doll world.

Then they would all cram into their kitchen to start baking cookies, waffles, and cinnamon buns before Grace would teach them how to make tartlettes and macaroons.

As far as the vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing... mayyyyybe. Haha! In my home we'd be more likely to bake cake pops, but my dolls are fans of cupcakes since there's so many cute AG-size cupcakes available.

    3. Oh that's the secret! :D Hahaha thanks for pointing that out to me! I'll be sure to put a note about it for the next giveaway. ^_^

Are you familiar with takoyaki? It's a Japanese snack that a sphere shape, the size of a cake ball. The first time I made cake balls, I had no idea how to make them that shape so I ended up using my takoyaki maker. XD
      http://ep.yimg.com/ay/houserice/large-takoyaki-pan-with-turning-pick-and-oil-brush-3.gif

      Delete
    4. I'm familiar with takoyaki, but I've never made it before--that would be something fun to try sometime! I've used a cake pop maker before, but I really disliked it--the "crust" of the cake balls were way too thick in relation to the overall cake pops' size; they didn't taste good and so I returned the appliance to the store. How did your takoyaki maker cake pops turn out?

Have you given them another try since then? They're so easy and the flavor combinations are endless! My favorite is chocolate orange cakepops with dark chocolate coating and white chocolate garnish, but this past Christmas I tried a chocolate mint recipe with white chocolate and a crushed peppermint garnish and it was great, too! I learned how to make cake pops from a friend, but if you want to give it another try without actual cake balls this recipe is very similar to how we do it: http://www.bakerella.com/basic-cake-pops-recipe/ The only change I would make is to say that the styrofoam block is more trouble than it's worth--we used a medium sized bowl filled with rice and covered with plastic wrap (so the rice could still be used later!) to hold our drying cake pops; I'm sure a bowl of beans would work well, too. I'd also recommend only using up to half a container of frosting--more than that always tend to turn into a sticky, not-good mess in our experiences.

      Delete
    5. Hahaha it didn't turn out very well so I don't recommend using a takoyaki pan. :D The outside was way overcooked. I haven't tried again after that but after hearing your different combinations, I'm tempted to try again. I saved the recipe and I'll check back on your instructions when I do so!

  33. You always have the cutest photostories! :)

  46. Just like at school and in days gone by our dolls would wear the apron to protect their clothes when doing chores. Clothes cost a pretty penny and it is tough doing laundry, hanging clothes out to dry and getting the ironing done.

P.S. Amen to the way past time for a dark skinned girl of the year. France has a large native Black population, as well as a lot of Black American ex pats. Grace would have worked as a beautiful dark skinned girl. Wasn't Marisol the first big seller. A good story, that sparked controversy, plus a beautiful doll was an AG gold mine.

  53. Felicity: Aye, while boiling my enemies sounds like fun, I would cover myself while riding as well. ;)
Whitney: I'd wear it when I help the Disney Animator Toddler girls make chocolate chip cookies. Toddlers sure do make a mess!
Jessa: Uh, I'd use it as a smock when I paint or a cover up when I make sushi.
Samantha: I'd love to wear it while learning to make French goodies, just like Grace!
Molly: I'll use it to keep my shirt from getting too dirty in the Victory Garden in the spring.
Josefina: I use it to keep my camisa from getting animal hair when I take care of pets.
