American Girls have quite a variety of beautiful eye colors but I was having trouble keeping them apart so I made a list of the different eye colors and which dolls have them as a reference, and posted it here for everyone's use. Please let me know if you see any errors! Color may vary depending on the age of the doll and what batch it's from.

wherethelilacsbloom shared with us this image comparing two different hazel eyes from 2 Rebecca dolls.
Left: From a Classic/Pre-Beforever Rebecca doll. Color is shared by Lanie and other older dolls.
Right: From a BeForever (post 2014) Rebecca doll. Color is shared by #55, Isabelle, etc.
*Note this is not a hard and fast rule, as you can see that the hazel eyes pictured above are from my Rebecca who is a Classic/Pre-Beforever doll, and yet is more similar to the eye on the right.
Hazel Eye Variation Chart
This chart is compiled from the photos KitandKat sent us to share on the blog, comparing Maryellen with numerous other dolls. You can view the full post here: http://lissieandlilly.blogspot.com/2015/09/maryellen-eye-hair-comparison-photos.html
What dolls have amber eyes?
ReplyDelete-Morgan
The only doll with Amber eyes is the MyAG #26. :)
DeleteThe new Truly Me, #62 has amber eyes too. AG describes them as brown, but they are unlike Julie's or #24's.
DeleteYup, I replied to Morgan before #62 was released, and added her to the post when she was released. :)
DeleteLove such post, thanks.
DeleteThanks!
ReplyDelete-Morgan
What dolls have regual pinwheel brown? I have 51 American Girl Dolls so I might be able to send in a photo of one with that color! I'm just not quit sure who you are looking for? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Eva(AmericanGirlUtopia)
That's so kind of you! The doll that immediately pops to my mind is Julie, who has the regular pinwheel brown. Thank you!
DeleteOops, I'm sorry, I just realized I didn't give you my email for the photo! It's lilliemaiden@gmail.com
DeleteThank you Eva!
Ok, thank you! I'll send you a photo but if Golden Freddy dose it too you can use that one if you'd like!
DeleteThanks,
Eva(AmericanGirlUtopia)
Thank you Eva! I received your email and just posted the picture you sent me! ^_^
DeleteGolden Freddy, if you would like to send me a picture as well, I would be happy to post it. One can never have too may photos for reference right?
I may be able to do regular brown too, if Eva can't... I have Julie, #35, and #59.
ReplyDeleteThat would be wonderful and very much appreciated, thank you! ^_^ You can email me at lilliemaiden@gmail.com if you like. (Hopefully I'll actually remember to take one when I go to the store next time. I feel like it's always on my to-do but gets forgotten. :D)
DeleteThank you so much for posting my photo! That is very kind of you!
ReplyDeleteThanks again,
Eva(AmericanGirlUtopia)
Doesn't #52 have the dark green eyes, too?
ReplyDeleteYou're right, she does! Thank you for telling me! :)
DeleteWhat about Mia? Seems to me her eyes are a more yellowy hazel?
ReplyDeleteMia has AG hazel eyes, though there are variations between batches.
DeleteWhich doll has decal green )laser green)?
ReplyDeleteFelicity, MyAG 6, 8, and 10 are the ones that jump to mind though there may be other modern dolls with the laser green eyes I'm forgetting. ^_^
DeleteYou forgot number 19 she is currently the only doll with the original mattel green eyes that isn't retired.
DeleteCould you do something on eye shapes/face molds too? That would be really helpful, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good suggestion! If I have the time, I will look into doing one for face molds as well. ^_^
DeleteDoes Kaya have the dark pinwheel brown or the pinwheel brown eyes? I'm having trouble telling from the photo of Julie because its sort of far back from her eyes.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I want to say she has the regular pinwheel brown but can't remember. :/
DeleteWow, this is super helpful! Looks like it was fun to make too... :D I am planning on buying a used Isabelle doll in the future for customizing, what (general) hazel category do you think the shade of her eyes fall in? :)
ReplyDelete~Mak (AGPathfindersProductions) <3
I'm glad you find it helpful! There are so many different variations in the hazel eyes, even among the same doll that it is hard to say. :/ Some Isabelle dolls have darker hazel eyes and some have lighter.
DeleteI have Isabelle!! Most of them have a dark hazel with a few shades of grey and lavender. They look allot like Maryellen's eyes. Oh and sorry for a late reply!
DeletePS: I think I know you from Youtube!!
~Ella
Thank very much for this chart! I had been noticing variations in the AG hazel colors for awhile, but thought that it just might be my imagination. Now all is clear to me. Thank you again! :)
ReplyDelete~Lizzy
I'm glad it was helpful! I was always confused about the hazel eye variations myself. :)
DeleteI believe my #55 doll has a Rebecca-Kanani hazel version, what do you think?
ReplyDeleteThe hazel eyes have so many batch to batch variations that it's completely possible your #55 falls somewhere in the spectrum between Rebecca and Kanani. :)
DeleteI have a first step edition Rebecca doll with an artist mark, I love her eye color and am glad it is not the beforever color!
ReplyDeleteAs long as you're happy. :)
DeleteI am very happy with her! I even got her signed by her author!!! Since I don't have Samantha she is my Victorian beauty!
DeleteThat's so neat that she's signed by the author!
DeleteThis chart is super helpful but do you think you could work on one concerning hair color (and maybe skin color) too
ReplyDeleteI want to get a truly me and since my parents probably won't be able to take me to the store so I can pick one out in person more info or pictures about hair and skin color would be very useful and much appreciated
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear you found this post helpful! Thank you for the suggestion about hair color and vinyl color. At the moment, I do not have enough dolls for a hair comparison post, because there are so many variations. In regards to the vinyl coloring, I also do not have all the dolls for that post but from what I recall, there are a few main variations:
DeleteVery Dark - Addy
Standard AG Dark - Cecile, #58
Medium - Marisol, #49, Josefina, Kaya
Light - All light vinyl dolls
Grey - This is not an actual color, but a factory defect during the early 2000s where some of the dolls have a greyish tint to their vinyl
Light Yellow - Back when #4 first came out, she had a slightly yellowish tint to her vinyl, but once again this was not "official" AG coloring.
There is so much variation in the vinyl, from batch to batch, so keep that in mind. :)
Thanks, your reply was quite helpful - I was also wondering if my dolls had slightly different skin colors but now i know its just from variation amongst batches!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it helped! Yes, there are so many variations in the dolls depending on what factory they were produced at, how the colors were mixed, etc. ^_^ But that's okay because that's what makes each doll unique right? :D
DeleteDoes anybody know what color #42's eyes are? I looked at her in store and could tell that her eyes were definitely a different color than my #58's and looked closer to Decal Brown or Amber! :) Thanks!
ReplyDelete~Mak <3
According to AG, #42's eyes are regular, light brown, and #58 has the dark brown eyes, though with all eye colors it is possible to have batch variations.
DeleteWhich dolls have Dark Pinwheel Brown eyes? I read on the AG Wiki that said color was mostly used for DOC (Dolls Of Color). I`m just really curious. Thanks!
DeleteHmmm... I can't remember them off the top of my head unfortunately, aside from Sawako Lilly (modern doll #4) who I see everyday. Your best best would be to check the AG Wikia page for the doll you had in mind to see if they had the dark brown eyes.
DeleteWhat about Lea's eyes? Are they a new kind of hazel or do they match a previous shade?
ReplyDeleteDid you see the review for Lea? :) I compared her with Rebecca & Kanani. It looks like her eyes are standard hazel.
DeleteI will go check that out. Thank you!!
DeleteI just ordered AND returned #62 and #47 because you could actually see the light blue part of the eye ball. (The part that is silver in your pix...) What could cause that to happen? What is happening to the quality of AG dolls?
ReplyDeleteThat can happen sometimes due to the way the eye socket is shaped unfortunately. :( I'm sorry to hear you had to return two dolls due to this.
DeleteLazer green is so pretty! I think I'm falling in love with Lissie<3
ReplyDeleteI personally think it's a really arresting, interesting color and wish they would still make more dolls with that eye color!
DeleteI agree! I have #19 (JLY version) and I am so upset that AG changed her eye color!
DeleteHi I am new to this website and I have a good question about a black Americans girls doll with dark brown hair and Brown eyes just like me tyhrenesha Jones Marie
ReplyDeleteI'll do my best to help! What is your question?
DeleteDo you need photos of Lea's eyes?
ReplyDeleteI have some photos of Lea's eyes, thank you for asking! ^_^ Since her's are just hazel, I didn't bother making a new listing just for her.
DeleteLea actually has a unique eye color
DeleteI was going by the AG website, which has her down as hazel, though I agree it is a different variation of hazel that is supposed to be more yellow.
DeleteActually, the eyes have a grayer shade of green, with more brown and thicker black outline.
DeleteThat's great that her eyes have those colors and distinctions for you. For myself, I do not see any difference in her eyes aside from more yellow, similar to Mia's eyes, that isn't just a potential factory variance.
DeleteI love Caroline's eyes, although when I got into American girl dolls enough to consider getting one, I realised that they retired her like, a week before I went on vacation to America.
ReplyDeleteAw, that's a shame you missed out on her direct from AG. It's a good thing you can always turn to eBay. :)
DeleteCan I send you a photo of Tenney's eyes?
ReplyDeleteDo you think that the BeForever Felicity eyes are different enough to be a new color? :-)
ReplyDeleteBeForever Felicity's eyes are so green! I guess I'd call them decal green eyes, but they are a little darker.
DeleteSide note; does anyone know if it's possible to change the eye color of your doll?
What color eyes do Emily have? They look gray and an odd shade of blue at the same time!
