The audition script is broken down into 3 parts for each character (Gemma and her bother Zack's girlfriend Paula). Here is a quick summary of each section:

Overall: Main character Jemma goes on adventures with her family and her older brother Zack is now working in Africa. He has a daytime job of helping rehab animals but a side job of tracking down organizations violating natural resources and the environment which is a secret he only tells to Jemma. He also has a new girlfriend that makes Jemma feel like a third wheel and jealous that she's not the only special girl in his life anymore. Jemma has to deal with adjusting to this new girlfriend in her brother's life and things get much worse when her brother disappears without a trace, and only Jemma knows about his side job tracking the dangerous organizations. She travels to Africa with her brother's girlfriend Paula and the two of them go on a dangerous mission to find and rescue him across the African desert.

Gemma Audition Part 1: Jemma is telling her class/friends about an adventure she went on with her dad and brother Zack where she saved her dad. Some of her classmates are dubious and challenge the truth of her story. Jemma's brother, just returned from Africa, appears and backs her up, telling everyone the story is true. With him is another woman named Paula, and Jemma is disappointed her brother brought his girlfriend home with him.

Gemma Audition Part 2: Jemma is sulking in her room/studying poetry and her brother Zack comes up to talk with her. He tells her he came all the way back to see her but she retorts that he should spend time with his girlfriend. Jemma finds out Zack may need to spend more time in Africa and accuses him of wanting to leave his family for a girl. Zack wants to tell Jemma a secret and at first she thinks he is just changing subject but reluctantly swears to keep his secret. He tells her that he has a side job tracking down powerful/dangerous organizations who are abusing the environment and that he almost has enough evidence against them. This is a secret he is only sharing with Jemma, not even Paula knows, and Jemma is pleased her brother trusts her.

Gemma Audition Part 3: Jemma answers the phone and is disappointed it's Paula calling, not Zack. She hands the phone to her mom who sounds worried. Apparently Zack has been missing for several days, missing working and being absent from his apartment. At first Jemma is dismissive, saying Zack is probably avoiding Paula, but when her mom calls Zack's boss who confirms he is missing, Jemma is also worried now for what may have happened to her brother.

Paula Audition Part 1: Zack's recounting the story of how he and Paula met (perhaps to his family) when he was struggling to open an animal cage. The two of them tease each other about the experience and someone (not sure who) tells Paula about another remarkable woman in the family.

Paula Audition Part 2: Gemma and Paula are in Africa searching for clues to Zack's disappearance but are in a tight spot when their tires are stuck. Gemma desperately wants to push forward but Paula is more cautious and tells Gemma they have no transportation and are not even dressed for the desert. Gemma insists that they must go on and Paul responds heatedly.

Paula Audition Part 3: Gemma and Paula are about to go to sleep while on the search for her missing brother Zack. They hear strange noises that they hope is a bird, but very well could be a hyena. Gemma expresses her worries about never finding Zack and Paula understands and comforts her, telling her they will succeed and their guide Aki knows the desert much better than the dangerous men who took Zack. Paula encourages Gemma and tells her she has guts. The two reconcile and the scene ends with them sharing a hammock after seeing something creepy scurry across the ceiling and laughing about how much Zack would enjoy this.

Final Notes: Based on previous year movie leaks, the name "Gemma" is in all likelihood a code name and not the actual name of the protagonist. Many aspects and details of the plot may be tweeked and changed before the final version is released, such as location, family details, themes, etc. However, it is unlikely the core story will change too much.

What does everyone think of the potential GotY 2016? ^_^ I'm super excited by how adventurous and daring her story seems to be, and it looks like it's going to touch on both serious themes as well as more childish, but very honest and relevant issues for a young girl with an older brother who has a girl in his life. I'm super super super hoping this girl of the year will be black or at least another minority but I'm almost afraid to get my hopes up at this point for fear of being disappointed. >_<

  1. I LOVE this story! I think I may actually end up liking this doll, and I don't usually end up liking GOTY. Here's hoping they use a Jess mold!

  2. Looks like a cool storyline with hopefully some interesting, unique accessories. The one thing that doesn't look good to me is that the character looks like possibly a half white, half other ethnicity ( i.e. Kanani, Jess) with a DOC/Fully non-white friend ( i.e. Sonali, Toulane ) Why can't AG make a DOC GOTY!?!? I will be very disappointed if AG makes another white/half white classic-mold GOTY. It's time for some representation AG!

    1. I definitely agree with you. Mixed children are beautiful and deserve to be represented, but at this point we already have 2 mixed characters in the GotY line and still only 1 full minority (Marisol) and not a single black GotY.

    2. dont forget sonali the friend of goty chrissa

      Delete
    3. Sonali was not a GOTY doll, she was a friend to the GOTY Chrissa, and she did not have her own collection. As beautiful as the doll is, it's still frustrating because once again it's a case of a minority character playing "friend" to the white GOTY character.

  4. This sounds really awesome! I can't wait to see what next year's GOTY brings. I don't know if you've noticed, but recently AG has trademarked the names "Gabriella" and "Melody Ellison." Gabriella was trademarked before Melody Ellison, I think. What do you think this means?? I'm presuming Melody Ellison is the GOTY, because AG has almost always trademarked their GOTYs with their first and last name. And since they trademark their historical characters earlier, I'm thinking Gabriella must be the name of a new historical character. I'm not sure, though, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :)

Also, have you noticed that AG is branching out internationally now with their GOTY stories? With Grace they went to Paris, and now with GOTY 2016 they're heading to Africa. I'm actually really excited about this, because I have African heritage and I am also an aspiring writer. I can't wait to see what this GOTY will be like!

    1. I think you made a lot of good points Audrey! I did see the trademarks for Gabriela and Melody Ellison names, though I guessed the opposite of you and assumed Gabriela would be the GotY name and Melody Ellison for the new historical character next year. :D I can't wait til we get more leaks and find out more!

I personally love that the GotY characters are traveling since I love to travel myself. I did want to give you a warning so you don't get your hopes too high, but I believe the use of Africa in the audition script is a "decoy" to throw people off the real location. All the previous GotY leaked scripts show big differences between the location/plot themes of the audition script versus the final storyline. While I think it is certain GotY 2016 will be traveling, the location may not be Africa and could be a different county. It's a pity because Africa would be such a vibrant setting for a story, but if they keep to the theme of environment/animal protection, I think it will be a fantastic story no matter what. ^_^

    2. I guess no one remembers Girl of the Year 2005...

    3. I don't understand what you mean by this? Jess was 10 years ago. It wasn't til 10 years later that we get another GotY Grace who travels internationally again. Aside from these two characters, there haven't been any other GotY characters who travel internationally. Audrey is pointing out that it is interesting they will do 2 GotY characters in a row who travel internally considering the last international traveling character was 10 years ago.

    4. @Lilly
Could it be possible that Gabriella Clark could be her name, but she goes by Lea? That's my suspicion.

    5. Kathleen, anything is possible until AG makes the official announcement, but I don't think it is likely because the name printed on all her clothing tags say "Lea Clark". ^_^

  8. I don't think I'll be getting her. She sounds like she's out of the country too much. Is that an AMERICAN girl? Grace Thomas went to Paris, but she came back. It sounds like Gemma or Lea is in Africa for long periods of time. When is AG going to make a GOTY that doesn't leave the country? I think it will be very, very, very hard for Lea or Gemma to beat Grace Thomas.

    1. Yes it is an American girl. American girls travel and explore the world. That is how an American girl, or any girl for that matter, becomes sensitive to other cultures and gains experiences that help them grow into well rounded, confident American women. As an American girl, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunities to travel, and it is these interactions with cultures outside of my what I am accustomed to which opened my eyes and helped me become a more tolerant, understanding, sensitive individual. How can you know what it is to be an American girl until you leave the United States and experience what makes other countries unique and how our country is perceived by them? I realize you do not share this view and I respect your decision to not get her. However, I personally am thrilled that AG understands an American girl needs to be aware and sensitive to other cultures and backgrounds and I hope they will be able to bring this aspect out in the stories.

      Delete
    2. It's because it gets boring to look at the average American Girl and imitate her story. Let's face it, American Girl thinks our real American Girls' lives are uninteresting without the experience of travel. Never mind the girls that can't travel or the differences many girls make in our communities (can't hide my sarcasm). American Girl appears to be bored with focusing on the girls that are doing something interesting in our own nation, Grace Thomas included.

What I can't stand about this script is the lack of reality. It sounds like some Disney movie. American Girl Beforever beats out Girl of the Year for this very reason. The American Girls that live rugged lives, do. But can you see Molly or Maryellen or Julie going on dangerous, daring adventures? No? Because REAL girls in that era don't live like that.

Girl of the Year's story sounds interesting, but I can hardly see modern girls living her life. It's believably exciting and something that only a girl every once in the full blue moon experiences.

@LillyMaiden Apparently you weren't around when Jess was around. She was the first GOTY to travel outside of the USA and none of her story took place in America. This American Girl at least returns to tell her classmates something. In fact, this story sounds exactly like GOTY 2005. Can't they think of something more original nowadays? Isabelle was just like Marisol, and this girl sounds like Jess. Meh. :/

      Delete
    3. I am familiar with Jess' character and storyline, as well as own the doll and her collection. Until Grace arrived 10 years later, she was the only GotY character to travel outside of the USA. It does seem strange that they would do an international travel story two years in a row, but considering the other 11 dolls (plus 2 best friend dolls) have their story take place in the USA, 3 dolls who travel (1 who is only gone for one of her books) does not seem extreme in distribution to me, though you may disagree.

Her storyline does seem extreme and far fetched, that's something I definitely agree with. It feels like an action movie and not realistic.

I can't wait for more information to come, such as the official casting call about "Paula" (since I don't know if that's going to be her name or not). I might fit her personality if I had a description to go off of. Excited. I love all things American Girl. It's my favorite collection that I own.

  10. I was wondering where you received the sides for this AG movie? I posted on American Girl's Facebook page asking where their official casting call is and they replied saying they have not heard anything about a new casting call or full-length movie, the only thing they have out right now, in terms of acting, is 2 short film auditions about Julie and Maryellen. Please let me know, so I can find out too. I would really love to be in an American Girl movie. Thank you
