1960s Black BeForever Character Melody Ellison Book 1 Cover & Summary

I know many of you have already seen this, but since our last post a week ago, some really exciting leaks have popped up for our 1960s black BeForever girl Melody Ellison, to be released next year in 2016! We now have a photo of the cover of her first book, which confirms some details such as her general appearance, her meet outfit, year of her story, and name, as well as the story summary from the back of the book.

Several people emailed me about the image, but I wanted to wait to post this until it had been widely shared, as I could not track down who took the photo and first shared it. I do not own the original photo, but I did make some light and color adjustments with photoshop to the original image for clarity when viewing. If you are the owner of the original photo, please send me a message through L&L's Facebook page and I will be more than happy to credit you for the photo, or remove it at your request.

*A list of all the current leaks & info for the 1960s BeForever is at the bottom of the post.*

Cover of Book 1:
My first reaction? LOVE!
Beautiful girl, beautiful outfit, exciting and engaging background, with a fun name and title! What's not to love? ^_^
It appears the green houndstooth dress we saw leaked on eBay several weeks ago really is her meet dress, and I don't have any complaints about this. It is beautiful and so flattering on her! Plus I'm just excited next year the color green is back in AG's color palette. ^_^ I am assuming the teal beret/hat she is wearing will either come with her outfit, or more likely, be part of her meet accessories.

Cover Details:
We saw the name Melody on the leaked, green, potential debut shirt that SailorMolly sent us photos of last Tuesday, and thanks to the book cover, it is now confirmed that the 1960s girl's name will be Melody Ellison (last name is from the trademark AG filed on this name over the summer).
Her story will take place in 1964, though it can actually start a year or two before and after that year, based on other AG historical stories.

The title of her first book is "No Ordinary Sound", another sign along with Melody's name, that music will play an important role in her stories.

Before anyone gets too excited (I know, too late. XD), let me just remind everyone that the illustration does not always match the doll.
That being said, I am so excited for Melody! She looks spunky, and spirited, and so stunningly gorgeous! This is definitely one of my favorite illustrations from the BeForever line. It looks like she will have the regular dark vinyl coloring (potentially medium, but my guess is the standard dark vinyl like Cecile's), brown eyes (I'm guessing the dark brown, pinwheel eyes, though the regular brown pinwheel eyes are also a possibility), and shoulder length, slightly textured, straight, brown hair, with a left side part, and bangs also parted on the left
I have no guesses to the possible face mold for her yet, though I am trying not to get my hopes up too high of the possibility of a new face mold with dimples. :D

The posters and signs in the background of her illustration give tantalizing peeks and hints about events and themes that will play a big role in her story.
The top of the long photo on the left shows that Melody is in front of a Record Shop.
Beneath that sign are several flyers stating "We Need You! *something* 100,000 Walk to Freedom *something something* on *some month* 23rd." Another flyer below that says "*something* Freedom March."
The photo on the right shows a beautiful lady from a Motown music group
I'm afraid I do not know much more than that so if you have any ideas of knowledge on the events and the Motown musicians, please comment below and let me know! ^_^

1964 Beforever Melody Ellison Book 1:
No Ordinary Sound
Summary from Back Cover: Melody can't wait to sing her first solo at church! What song will she choose? She gets advice from her big brother, who has his sights on becoming a Motown star, and she gets inspiration from the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Melody's also inspired by her older sister, who's home from college with new ideas about making things fair. What isn't fair is their cousins' struggle to buy a house. Melody learns that they're not welcome in certain neighborhoods because they're black. Just as Melody's ready to sing, an unimaginable tragedy leaves her silent. Can she find her voice when it really matters?
No Ordinary Sound, the first volume of Melody's stories about growing up in the 1960s, shows how people can come together to create social change.
*Thank you to BeauCoeur for taking the time to type up the summary from the back cover of the book. She typed this from the image posted on AGUpdateNews on Instagram.*

  1. I went ahead and preordered the book a couple of days ago because I am really excited about this story. I'll probably end up giving in and getting the doll, too, eventually if she's as cute as the book cover!

    1. Hahaha! I know the doll will definitely be coming here, and I can't wait to read the books! I loved Lisa Yee's book for Ivy and enjoyed the Kanani ones as well. :)

  2. My first thought when I saw this cover was "Dimples!" If the doll does have dimples, then I will be so happy!
I have a small doll collection (just Josefina) but I really want to get both girls (talk about breaking the bank!)
I really hope they don't retire Addy. While I have no plans to get her, I still think she is beautiful and represents an important time in history. There should be fair representation of all girls in AG's line, I would think. I'm so excited, I myself love music. Any guesses as to where Melody lives?
    Thank you Lilly, as always!

    1. I would LOVE a doll with dimples! I'm trying so hard not to get my hopes up that AG will make a new face mold for her, but it's hard. :D From what I have heard, Addy is a possibility, though nothing is ever official til AG announces it. I would be sad to see her leave. :/

It looks like Melody's story will address a lot of important social changes that were taking place during that time period, so I am excited about that. Even though I don't know much about Motown, I am a big music lover like you so I'm sure that will help me relate and connect with her! As for her location, I believe the most common rumor has her placed in Detroit (Motown), though with the talks of the Freedom March, Alabama has also been suggested. ^_^

    1. I'd never heard of Marian Anderson so of course I had to look her up. :) Wow has she got a powerful, rich voice! I agree the name Melody is perfect for the new character.

  4. I am really excited for her! I love how the cover looks, I hope the doll either has the Cecile mold or a new mold (WITH DIMPLES). Her hair and dress look beautiful! Her name being Melody is perfect.
