New 2017 Contemporary Character Tenney Grant

*UPDATE 12/13: Added photo of potential Tenney's wardrobe at the bottom of the post.*

For months now, we've been finding out bits and pieces about a new line American Girl is planning to debut next year. Here is what we know so far (please keep in mind nothing is certain til AG releases her officially):

1) The line is called the Contemporary MG (Modern Girl?).
2) This is different from the Girl of the Year line, and there will be a separate Girl of the Year 2017 (rumored name Gabriela) next year.
3) The first Contemporary girl's name is Tennyson Grant (nickname Tenney).
4) She will have a series of books to accompany the doll which include 3 main story books and 1 character journal.
5) The release date will be January 31st (based of her book publication date). *Update 12/3: Rumors are circulating the doll will be released on Feb. 9th, 2017.*
6) Tenny is white, with blond, curly/wavy hair, and what looks like brown eyes.
7) She is from Nashville, Tennessee.
8) Her pet is a Golden Retriever dog named Waylon.
9) She plays guitar and banjo, and loves to perform.
10) Her best friend is Jaya Mitra, who loves art.
11) There may be a second contemporary character released later in the spring (publication date in April).
*Update 12/3* Rumors are circulating that:
12) A boy doll "Logan" who will be her friend will be released with her on Feb. 9th, 2017.
13) Both Tenney and Logan will have differently shaped hands in order to be able to hold their instruments.

You can see photos of some of her potential outfits and her pet on the Master List of Leaked AG Releases at this link: http://lissieandlilly.blogspot.com/p/leaked-ag-releases.html

Below are images from the BNC CataList website of Tenney's Journal and some pages inside with more information about her:

  1. It would be interesting if these characters were connected like a group of friends, it would be different than what they have done before.

  2. Also noticed that these girls are "middle" school so maybe they are trying to reach a different age group as the AG dolls are 8-10 age

    1. I didn't realize that! I wonder then if the dolls themselves will be different from the current 18 inch line? Something to distinguish it for "older" girls.

    2. It sort of reminds me of the Girls of Many Lands that came out. They were targeted to an older group. And I believe the dolls were 9".

    3. The WellieWishers are freinds too, but they are for really young girls mostly.

    1. It doesn't matter much to me either way since my dolls' ages are flexible, but I do think it'll make the story more believable. :)

  6. I am glad that AG changed a little bit making girls of middle school instead of elementary !! Tenney looks like such a pretty doll but let's hope that AG makes her exactly like the book character ...... I know it is a little tricky but hopefully you guys will know what I mean :) I specially wish she had wavy or even curly hair :) But at least I am planning to get her and also her BF Jaya ( If she is also a doll :) )

    1. I don't find myself wanting a Tenney doll, but it is good to make her character a bit older. ^_^

    2. I agree that it is good that AG is trying to get a different age group wih this new line. I hope that she will be in seventh or eight grade because sixth is very similar to elementary, sixth graders just start the new school. On the other hand, I'm going into sixth next school year...

  9. So has Tenney Grant been on the cover of the DK Ultimate Sticker book all this time!?

  10. Hmmm... You predicted that Logan would be Tenney's brother, but I don't think that's correct. The profile page shows her siblings as "Mason and Aubrey".
    Just something I noticed...

    1. Apparently Logan is her drummer friend. I don't want a boy doll though!!!

  16. Tenney will actually be getting three story books:

Since GOTY 2017's getting 4 books, the CC characters will most likely follow the same format. (The fourth books will hopefully be journals)

  17. One interesting thing to consider about Tenney and her group possibly being in Middle School...some middle schools are now including 5th grade, making the school a 5-8 school. I don't think it's too common, but I know it happens. There is a school near me that is like this.

    1. Our whole town is like that.

    2. I didn't think of that, I guess because I'd always assumed the AG characters were at least in middle school since their stories are so "out there". Maybe AG is trying to appeal to older girls?

  18. Are the CMG dolls coming out once a year. Are they sticking around for a while or a limited time. Do you think they are replacing JLY and GOTY?

    1. It feels like they're supposed to take the place of GOTY, but we honestly don't know right now what their time line will be.

  19. I doubt "Contemporary MG" is the name of the line, as that would be redundant. More likely it is just a classification of the type of story. In the literary world, "MG" means "middle grade" and generally refers to books written for ages 8-12. Those readers are between "Chapter Books" and "Young Adult". Contemporary indicates a fairly modern setting for the story.

    1. It is a pretty cumbersome name. :D But for now, until we know what AG will call it, this is the best we have from the leaks.

  20. I am hoping that AG will give us new face molds and dolls, I don't mind if they looks like Journey Girls at TRU
which has a more mature looks.

  22. So excited they have an african american goty! Not really sold on her story though. It seems lke AG didn't even try. I mean, this is like the third goty dancer. Excited about Teeny, maybe I'm just bias since I relate to music more than dance. What I find interesting is that a musical doll (Melody) just came out. But it's cool that Teeny is more of a country singer. I like that she has freckles, that's different. Not too crazy about the name, if I get her, I'll probably rename her Taylor or something. Overall, she's a pretty doll and I'm excited about her collection!

    1. I think the idea of Tenney is to parallel the popularity of Taylor Swift and hope to appeal to young girls that way. I'm not a Swift fan so Taylor doesn't really connect with me, but I am looking forward to seeing new instruments! :)

  23. I'm so exited, looks like the outfits are 18 inch doll size so I won't have to buy another doll just because I like the 2 outfits!

    1. XD That would be such a headache if they were different sizes because then you couldn't swap outfits out with them.

  24. did they change it to Gabriella McBride

  25. I'm getting tenney because her books are appropriate for my age the books are for 10 to 14 and I'm 14 so I can read it but I want tenney clothes for me because I'm in love with that button top and white shorts for me

  26. Please be Marie Grace mold since I don't have her and I love that mold! But I wish Java was the main character because I feel like we have enough of blonde girls. I'm blonde myself, and have nothing against it, but it's getting repetitive.
