Potential Leaked Swimsuits for Girl of the Year 2016 Lea Clark

Scoop Fairy Jenny from AGC shared with me these images a few days ago from two listings on the Chinese website TaoBao, which shows 2 possible variations of a potential swimsuit for next year's Girl of the Year 2016, Lea Clark. I am wondering if this will be a 2-in-1 swimsuit, with the purple tie dye dress we saw leaked earlier being the cover up.

Both swimsuits have the American Girl logo, though I don't see a Lea Clark ego tag, so it is always possible this could be for Truly Me or BeForever. But due to the tropical feel of the print, and the bright neon colors, I am leaning towards this being from GOTY 2016 Lea's collection.

The print fabric on the two swimsuits match which is why I want to say this will be part of a 2-in-1 swimsuit set. The other option is AG may have 2 variations and girls can just pick the one they like best. Or it's entirely possible one of these or both are prototypes and won't be made period.

If this is offered in a 2-in-1 format, it reminds me very much of Jess' collection, which also had a very bright, neony 2-in-1 swimsuit, made of the same material. The design is very cute to me, though since I don't collect that much sportswear, this would still be in the "buy if on sale" category in my mind. ^_^

  1. Hmm... I don't really like either of them, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the one on the right. It's a teensy-bit more modest. ;)

    1. I agree with you.

    2. The pink one looks more for water sports than playing on the beach to me. The yellow one seems very accurate to what girls are wearing today.

  2. This is very interesting... I live n England and have number 61. she would love this! i'm going to Atlanta in march so hopefully I can pick this up if it is real...... I kind of think they need a 1 piece with shorts or something because it is a bit short...What do you think?

    1. Although I personally prefer a 1 piece for myself, when it comes to my dolls, I don't really care as long as it looks good. :) It doesn't seem short to me, and I've seen many girls wear this style at the beach or pool.

    2. The modern 18” bathing suits have always been cut with the "brief" style as displayed above, so it’s no shorter than the others they have offered in the past. Be it 1 or 2 piece, the bottom part is always cut the same way for young girls and AG has always reflected that. It’s just a matter of what kind of cover-up they decide to offer. I do think it's interesting that they didn't offer a skirt or shorts with either of these sets.

  3. I LOVE these, but I'm tired of every AG swim suit being a bikini. I wish we could at least have a little modesty, but nobody seems to care for that any more. I like the one with the shirt better because it's a little more modest than the other one.

    1. I don't think the shirt makes a good swimsuit since it looks more like a rash guard for water sports. The yellow one seems very accurate to what girls are currently wearing at pools and beaches. And of course if you dislike 2 pieces, the current swim suit is a one piece.

    2. As a general caution, we might want to keep in mind that the opposite of “modesty” is “immodesty”, and therefore suggests a judgmental stance. If I heard, “no one cares for modesty anymore” as my daughter walked past in her bikini, I’d take issue with that. I believe "conservative" is a much better term.

Also, as Lilly Maiden said, one of them is a rash guard which is not a bikini in addition to the fact that AG has the Beachy Boho that is one piece.

  4. Cool! I need some new swimsuits for my dolls (not kidding! I just have one swimsuit for five dolls!) I love the print and I'am a fan of the neon colors so this might go right to my collection. I just need to say that I like the idea of american girl doing this kind of a adventurous goty just like a mix of a kanani doll and jess. But thats the other thing that I don't like! And this swimsuit proofs my point, I just like the idea but I want a doll with an original story and collection. Maybe the same theme with something that makes this doll especial and stands out. I am probably going not to grab the doll (I think that 5 dolls are enough) but I am probably going to grab the books to see the story. I think I am going to like but I just need to wait and see what those these doll has that makes her story especial and unique! :-)

    1. I would recommend waiting til you actually read Lea's stories before you decide she's just a rehash of Jess and Kanani. :) From her summaries, it seems like her plot line is very different from Kanani's story, and even though she is similar to Jess, I think her adventure will be different, especially since Jess only had 1 book and Lea will at least have 3.

  5. I suppose that the swimsuits are alright, but I wish that AG would try to appeal to more girls with these outfits. It looks like something a girl would wear between ages 4-9. I wish it would be a bit more modest and maybe a solid colour and less neon, with a subtle pattern? I'm not sure.

    1. Well, since 4-9 is the majority of the age range getting AG, that makes sense they would try to appeal to this group. Swimsuits in general are pretty flashy and colorful, so I think the bright colors and prints are a good choice here, though I can understand where you're coming from with all the neon. As for modesty, everyone has their own standards. Personally, I think it's pretty accurate for what young girls are wearing to pools and beaches now, so it doesn't bother me as much.

    2. I think that this sort of swimsuit being the norm doesn't make it "okay"... at least, not for me. The norm keep on changing and changing, revealing more and more skin. I'm not trying to start a debate, but in my opinion, we need to draw the line somewhere. That's why I like the rashguard suit better.

    3. I understand that this sort of swimsuit being the norm is not "okay" for you, and that is perfectly fine. We all have different levels of what is acceptable to us. However, I would kindly ask people to refrain from using the term "modest" and "modesty" as it carries strong connotations of being judgmental, even if that is not anyone's intent. A better way to phrase it would be to say, "This swimsuit shows too much for my personal taste." That is perfectly fine, and does not sound like anyone is being criticized (after all, the only people we have any right to pass judgement on is ourselves right? ^_~).

    4. Thank you, I really appreciate your understanding!

  6. My glob, Lea, do I really like ALL of your collection?! Oh no...

  7. This might not be the final product because it dose not have a name tag. But it is definitely from her collection because it is simular to the other leaked photos from her collection with her name tag

    1. Since this outfit has appeared again, this time on eBay, I believe it is the final product and not a prototype. At this stage, I am starting to lean more towards this item coming from the Truly Me line since it doesn't have the name tag, but until the official release by AG, anything is possible. :)
